A condensing boiler makes more of the energy it runs on by using heat normally expelled through the flue. By converting over 90% of the fuel used (rather than just 50% in the case of some old boilers), a condensing boiler makes your fuel go further. Therefore, a condensing boiler can help to save 30% on your fuel bills and reduce your carbon footprint.

A combi boiler, short for “combination”, refers to the way this type of system serves as both a central heating boiler and a hot water heater. That means there is no need for a water tank, as hot water is provided on demand. As well as saving the space normally taken up by a water tank (in the loft or airing cupboard), a combi boiler saves on hot water costs as well as giving you hot water at mains pressure.

A regular boiler typically forms part of a conventional heating system and is linked to a series of water tanks that feed the boiler and radiators. Storing hot water is key to this system, so unlike a combi, a plentiful supply of hot water is always available. Space in the loft and airing cupboard is required for tanks.

A system boiler, like a regular boiler, uses stored hot water. As the water is pumped from the boiler straight to the radiators and hot water tank, it is a faster, more economical system. What’s more, many of the components of the system are built in, making it easier, quicker and more affordable to install.

An F22 error code is a common problem and means that the water pressure on your boiler has fallen and that it needs to be increased before the system will run again.

Anywhere between 1.0 and 2.0 bar is ideal. The exact recommended pressure level will depend on the boiler manufacturer. When heating your home or having the hot tap on, the boiler pressure level will rise, but it should stay below the upper-pressure limit of 3 bar.

The boiler will display the F16 error code when the system cannot detect the gas flame.  When you turn on the hot water shower or tap the PCB will kick into action and signal the burner to turn on to heat the water needed. This process involves opening the gas valve for fuel supply.

When the F16 error appears, it means there’s a problem that prevents the flame from lighting or the PCB from detecting the flame.

This is most likely cause is the comfort feature being active and this would be displayed on the screen with a c symbol. If you turn the hot water control all the way to 0 then back to your desired temperature, the c symbol will disappear.

One of the most common reasons for a lack of hot water is a boiler fault. Contact a GSR Engineer ASAP if your boiler is faulty. Other causes could be low or high water pressure, an interruption to the power supply, an issue with the timer or a piping issue.

If your boiler is heating water but not your radiators, then the cause could be a faulty boiler pump or your central heating controls. Check that the thermostat or timer is working correctly as this may be the issue.

Most newer boilers have sensors that will measure the pressure of the water in the system. If the pressure drops, the sensors kick in and display an error code and a red light may display on the board. This simply means the boiler is not firing correctly.
